Now let’s walk through it step by step, so you know what to buy, what it costs in pesos, and what to do if your card gets declined.

Can you use Claude Code in the Philippines?

Yes. The Philippines is a supported country, so you can sign up and pay like anyone else.

What is Claude Code?

Claude Code is Anthropic’s coding tool. It runs in your terminal, and it also works inside code editors like VS Code. You tell it what you want in plain words. It reads your code, writes changes, and runs commands for you.

Does Claude Code have its own subscription?

No. This is the part most guides get wrong.

There is no separate “Claude Code plan.” Claude Code comes with a paid Claude plan. If you have Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise, you already have Claude Code.

There is one more way in. You can also use Claude Code with prepaid API credits from the Claude Console. More on that below.

So what do you actually pay for?

You pick one of these:

• Pro if you’re one person coding now and then
• Max if you code with Claude for hours each day
• Team if you’re buying for a group at work
• Enterprise if you’re a large company
• Console (API) credits if you want to pay only for what you use

How Claude Code billing works in 2026

Here’s the whole picture in one table.

One thing to keep in mind: a Pro or Max plan does not give you API access. Anthropic treats your Claude plan and the Claude Console as two separate products. If you want both, you pay for both.

How much does Claude cost in the Philippines?

Claude lists its prices in US dollars. Your bank turns that into pesos when you pay.

Here’s what that looks like. We used a rate of ₱62.39 to $1 (the mid-market rate on September 30, 2026). We also added 12% VAT, since that may show up at checkout (see the next section).

These are estimates, not a quote. The rate moves every day, so your real charge will be a bit different.

How much is Claude Pro in pesos?

Here’s the simple math for Pro:

• $20 × ₱62.39 = ₱1,247.80
• Add 12% VAT: ₱1,247.80 + ₱149.74 = ₱1,397.54

So plan on about ₱1,400 a month for Pro.

Why your charge may be higher than you expect

A few things can push the amount up:

• The exchange rate. Your bank uses its own rate, not the one you see on Google.
• Foreign fees. Many Philippine cards add a fee when you pay in dollars. Maya, for example, charges 2.75%. On a ₱1,398 Pro charge, that’s about ₱38 more.
• Tax. Claude’s prices don’t include tax. Tax is worked out at checkout from your billing address.
• App store prices. If you pay through the App Store or Google Play, the price is set by the store. It may not match the web price.
• Your billing address. A wrong address can change the tax, or even cause a decline.

Tip: If you plan to stay with Claude for a year, the yearly Pro plan works out to about $17 a month. That’s roughly ₱200 a month less than paying monthly.

Is there 12% VAT on Claude in the Philippines?

Yes, it can apply. Since June 2, 2025, the Philippines charges 12% VAT on digital services used here. This includes services from foreign companies, like Claude.

This comes from Republic Act 12023. The BIR explains the rules in Revenue Regulations Number. 3-2025. In June 2026, the BIR added Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 59-2026. It makes one point clear: the 12% VAT applies when the person paying is in the Philippines.

How does VAT change a $20 plan?

Easy math:

• $20 plan + 12% VAT = $22.40
• At ₱62.39, that’s about ₱1,398

Does VAT apply to API credits too?

It can. Under RA 12023, VAT covers digital services in general, not just monthly plans. So your Console credits may also show VAT. Check the tax line on your Console invoice to see what you were charged.

What if you’re buying for a business?

If your company is VAT-registered, the rules are different. Businesses may have to handle the VAT themselves through a “reverse charge.” Talk to your accountant about this. It’s not something we can advise on.

What payment methods can Filipinos use for Claude?

Here’s the key rule from Anthropic:

• On the web, Claude takes credit and debit cards only.
• On iPhone, Apple handles the payment.
• On Android, Google Play handles the payment.

So a wallet like GCash never pays Claude directly. It can only help through a card or an app store.

Here’s how each option stacks up.

“May work” means it’s a normal Visa or Mastercard, so it should be accepted. But we haven’t seen it confirmed for Claude. Try it yourself, and keep a backup card ready.

Can you pay for Claude with GCash?

Can you pay with the GCash wallet on the web?

Short answer: The Claude website itself only accepts cards. However, you may be able to use GCash on Android through Google Play.

Can you use GCash for Claude on Android?

Possibly. In November 2025, GCash began working with Google Play. You can now link your GCash wallet and pay for Google Play items with it. The rollout started with some users and is growing.

So the path looks like this:

GCash wallet → Google Play → Claude app subscription

To try it:

1. Open the Google Play Store.
2. Tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions.
3. Tap Payment methods and look for GCash.
4. If you see it, add it and link your account.
5. Open the Claude app and subscribe.

If GCash doesn’t show up, it’s not available on your account yet.

One more thing. GCredit (GCash’s credit line) can also be set as a backup payment method for Google Play and the App Store.

What about the GCash Card?

The GCash Card is a Visa debit card you order in the GCash app. It’s not the same as paying with your wallet. Since it’s a Visa card, you can try it on the Claude website like any other card. Just make sure you have enough balance in your GCash wallet first.

Can you pay for Claude with Maya or a Philippine bank card?

Often, yes. Most Philippine cards run on Visa or Mastercard, which Claude accepts. The catch is that many banks turn off online or overseas payments by default. Claude is a US company, so your bank may see it as a foreign charge.

Maya

Maya has both a virtual and a physical card. Both run on Visa or Mastercard. The virtual card is for online use only. Maya charges a 2.75% foreign fee on charges in another currency. Keep enough money in your Maya wallet to cover the full amount plus the fee.

GoTyme

GoTyme gives you a Visa debit card. it says you can use it online and at stores around the world wherever Visa is accepted. Try it with Claude, and call if it gets declined.

Big banks (BDO, BPI, UnionBank, Metrobank, Security Bank)

These cards can work too. But some people see declines. That’s usually because of a card setting, not the bank itself. The next section shows you what to check.

Why was my Claude payment declined in the Philippines?

This is the section to bookmark. Most declines come down to one of these problems.

Anthropic notes that your billing address must match your payment method. A mismatch is a common reason for trouble.

Check these before you call your bank

Run through this quick list:

1. Is the card number right?
2. Is the expiry date right?
3. Is the CVV right?
4. Do you have enough balance, plus room for VAT and fees?
5. Are international payments turned on?
6. Are online payments turned on?
7. Are repeat (subscription) payments allowed?
8. Did you finish the OTP step?

10. Is your Claude account location the same as your card’s country?

My bank says the payment went through. Why did Claude say no?

This happens. Your bank may approve the charge on its side, but the payment can still fail on Claude’s side. When that happens, you’ll often see a “pending” charge that drops off in a few days.

Don’t keep retrying the same card over and over. That can get the card flagged. Instead, wait, check your settings, or try another card.

When a virtual card makes sense

• You don’t have a credit card

• You manage or cancel the plan in your iPhone settings, not in Claude.

How to pay for Claude on Android

If you subscribe in the Claude app on Android, Google Play handles the payment.

• You pay with any method in your Google Play account.
• That can include GCash, if it’s available on your account.
• Your receipts come from Google.
• You manage or cancel the plan in Google Play.

To be clear: Claude doesn’t take GCash. Google Play does. Claude just gets paid by Google.

How to pay for Claude API credits in the Philippines

If you’d rather pay for what you use, you can buy credits in the Claude Console.

Claude API vs Claude Pro

These are two different things.

• Pro and Max are plans you pay for each month.
• API credits are prepaid. You spend them as you use them.

Your Pro plan doesn’t come with API credits. If you want both, you pay for each one.

How to buy credits

1. Go to the Claude Console and sign in.
2. Go to Settings → Billing.
3. Click Buy credits.
4. Add your card.
5. Enter an amount and confirm.

Your credits are ready right away. You need an Admin or Billing role to do this.

How auto-reload works

You can set credits to top up on their own:

1. On the Billing page, click Edit next to Auto-reload.
2. Pick a low balance that will trigger a top-up.
3. Pick how much to add each time.

Your card gets charged each time your balance drops to that level.

What happens when your credits run out?

You can’t use the API or the Console Playground until you add more. Claude Code will also stop if it’s running on those credits.

Do API credits expire?

Yes. Credits expire one year after you buy them. You can’t extend that date, and you can’t get a refund. So buy what you’ll use.

How to change your card

1. Go to Settings → Billing in Claude.
2. Click Update next to your payment method.
