Which Airtel plan should you buy?

Start with what you do most.

How much data does a video call use?

Example: If you have 10 one-hour video calls a week, plan for about 40GB or more a month. A 10GB plan will cover only about 10 hours of video calls a month. Turn your camera off, or lower video quality, to use less data.

Three things to notice:

1. Small plans cost the most per GB. The monthly 8GB plan costs only ₦500 more than the 4GB plan and gives you double the data.
2. Weekly plans give more data per naira, but only for 7 days. Four weeks of the ₦5,000 20GB plan costs ₦20,000 for 80GB. The ₦20,000 monthly plan gives 100GB.
3. Everyday-ON 40GB at ₦7,500 costs less than the monthly 35GB plan at ₦10,000. The catch is the 1.33GB daily limit.

How to buy Airtel data

With USSD (works without internet)

1. Dial *312# on your Airtel line.
2. Choose the type of plan: daily, weekly, monthly, Binge and so on.
3. Pick the plan you want.
4. Confirm. You will get an SMS when it is active.

With the My Airtel app

1. Download My Airtel from the Play Store or App Store.
2. Sign in with your Airtel number.
3. Choose Buy bundle and pick your plan.

Other ways

Airtel also says you can buy data through your bank’s app or website.

Validity, grace period, and rollover

Does Airtel data roll over?

Yes, but only if you renew on time. Airtel’s rules say:

• You keep unused main data if you buy another plan from the same category before your plan ends, or during the grace period.
• Unused bonus data is lost if you renew outside the grace period.
• You cannot use data during the grace period. It is only for renewing.

How does auto-renewal work?

• When you buy a plan, Airtel asks if you want it to renew by itself.
• It only renews if you say yes and you have enough airtime.
• Airtel sends an SMS before it renews. You can cancel then.
• To stop it later, use the opt-out code Airtel gives you, or check the My Airtel app.

Pay-as-you-use data, speed limits and other basics

• Pay-as-you-use: Dial *400#. You pay ₦4.60 per MB with no plan. That is ₦4,600 per GB, much more than any plan above. Buy a plan instead.
• Speed: Airtel says it gives “best effort” internet. It does not promise a speed. The top speed by network type is 236Kbps on 2G, 42Mbps on 3G, and 150Mbps on 4G.
• Who can subscribe: Any Airtel customer can buy any plan.

Airtel router data (home and office)

Router plans are different from phone data plans. Airtel’s SmartConnect 5G outdoor router was launched with these terms:

Why do other websites show different Airtel prices?

Many guides are out of date. In 2025, Airtel raised its plan prices after the NCC approved a 50% tariff increase. For example, the old 1.2GB plan at ₦1,000 was replaced with 2GB at ₦1,500. Some sites still list old prices.

Airtel also says it can change its plans at any time, with NCC approval. That is why this page shows a check date. If a price here does not match *312#, trust *312#.

What is the YouTube Night bonus? Free data that comes with many weekly and monthly plans. It only works for watching YouTube, between 12am and 5am.

Does Airtel data roll over? Yes, if you buy another plan from the same category before your plan ends or during the grace period. The grace period is 1 day for daily plans, 3 days for weekly plans and 7 days for monthly plans. Unused bonus data is lost outside the grace period.
